Back in the mid 1970’s, companies wanting a computer system had limited choices. They either bought a “canned system,” or hired a full-time programmer to develop a custom system. Either way, they had to be prepared to spend a great deal of money. BAI’s founders, Doug Nation and Frank Eperjesi, believed that businesses should not be forced to change their operations to fit into canned programs, but rather the software solution should be modified to match the operation.
At the time, Doug & Frank were systems analysts working at a computer hardware manufacturer called General Automation. With a burning desire to bring cost effective automation to the marketplace, and an entrepreneurial spirit, they started BAI in September of 1975. They purchased a computer and the rights to a software package offered by GA, and set out to realize their dream. Over the years, a hand-picked staff of technical and sales professionals emerged and the dream became a reality.
Since 1975, many changes have taken place in the fast-paced information technology industry. Always at the forefront of technology, BAI rewrote its software in 1979 to take advantage of a revolutionary new concept–the first relational database manager offered on multiple brands of hardware. Today, the software operates on many different platforms, UNIX, LINUX and Windows operating systems.
More than a quarter century later, Doug and Frank continue to prove that their idea to offer customizable, cost effective software was a good one. The two still own the company and oversee the day-to-day operation. BAI is now a recognized leader in the industry, has offices on both coasts, has one of the finest technical support staffs, and has nearly 400 installations throughout North America.

3. Develop vertical software packages.
4. Maintain a very high level of computer system expertise.
5. Grow the company through retained earnings.
6. Always keep in mind that BAI is a service company.

Business Automation is currently providing business systems to organizations throughout the North America. Our installations cover companies that range in size from 8 to over 300 users. From 1975 through 1978, the founders (and still current owners) of BAI dedicated the majority of the company’s resources to develop software.
Business Automation was founded, and is still managed by, business systems experts. The officers and directors of BAI have many years of system analysis/programming experience and each has installed many systems. This in-depth knowledge and working experience has allowed BAI to develop a professional staff of system analysts who are experts in solving information management problems required to successfully keep tight control of today’s business. Our technical staff members average more than fifteen years experience, and many of them have been with BAI for over 20 years.
